Renewable & New Energy

Warrnambool’s vision is to be the most environmentally sustainable regional city in Australia. Deakin University Warrnambool campus is south-west Victoria’s regional hub of hydrogen expertise. The Hycel Technology Hub is Australia’s first regional hydrogen hub that specialises in developing, testing, training, demonstrating and manufacturing hydrogen fuel technology. The new Hub will create a regional cluster of expertise to tap into the global hydrogen economy and supply chains.

The Wimmera Southern Mallee region is energy rich in solar and wind with almost $3bn worth of wind farm developments under construction. The Ararat Wind Farm is currently Australia’s third largest wind farm by generation output.

Several wind farms are located in the Gippsland region, a solar farm with planning approval, as well as Australia’s first proposed offshore wind farm. The region will continue to evolve and develop as Victoria’s energy hub with current investigations into geothermal, clean energy and bio-energy underway.
