Business Events Victoria, in collaboration with the City of Ballarat, recently hosted our first client famil of 2024, offering an exclusive glimpse into the vibrant offerings of this historic city. BEV hosted a two-day famil itinerary for meeting planners, exploring the city’s finest business event venues, accommodation and food and beverage offerings.
Starting at the Ballarat Function Centre, the group was greeted with fantastic hospitality, sunshine and were fortunate to view the greyhounds in action. This pristine and professional venue has two large function spaces and a small private bar space, this venue boasts incredible versatility and abundance of natural light.
Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre
Next, The group stopped into the tranquility at the Mercure which is nestled amidst three hectares of manicured gardens. The venue showcased their multiple meeting rooms, newly refurbished accommodation and the largest convention centre in regional Victoria.
The next stop at Sovereign Hill provided an immersive experience in the rich history of the Ballarat, which proved to be a true highlight. Walking the streets of this living museum, the group was transported back in time to the gold rush era, marvelling at the authenticity of the experience and relishing the opportunity to connect with Australia’s heritage. A gold pour demonstration and lunch at the Theatre Retiring Room are just some of the many ways to use Sovereign Hill as part of your next business event.
The Goods Shed followed next with its vibrant ambiance and electric offerings, providing a delightful glimpse into Ballarat’s newest business event facility. From the Carriage Rooms to the Terminus Theatre, each space exudes elegance and charm, perfect for hosting memorable events. It was essential to stop next door at Itinerant Spirits, where the group was treated to a gin masterclass and distillery tour. A tour of Quest Ballarat Station provided insight into the accommodation offerings available close by.
Our first day ended at RACV Goldfields Resort with an inspection of the refurbished accommodation rooms, modern conference facilities and 400-seater ballroom. The group was treated to local sparkling wine at the fire pit overlooking the 18-hole golf course, wildlife and stunning sunset. Dinner followed at the Three Founders Restaurant highlighting the region’s local produce and no one left disappointed.
Black Cat Truffle
The next morning, the  culinary journey continued at a new local favourite Black Cat Truffles. We were treated to brunch and a truffle hunt for the famous white and black truffles.
Federation University – Mount Helen & SMB Campus
Federation University showcased both the Mt. Helen and SMB Campus. Starting at Mt. Helen campus we viewed the newly renovated Albert Coates function and dining space followed by the Caro Convention Centre. A short trip into town to view the SMB Campus, Â which is located in the heart of Ballarat CBD and boasts the largest of its kind digital and interactive screen in Australia.

Lydiard Street Precinct – Ballarat Mining Exchange and Ballarat & Civic Hall
Exploring the Lydiard Street Precinct, we discovered the historic Ballarat Mining Exchange and Civic Hall, these iconic landmarks are steeped in history and architectural beauty. Ballarat Mining Exchange can hold a wide range of events from tradeshows to gala dinners up to 500 delegates. Civic Hall recently re-opened after a full renovation and having been closed to the public for many years, Â has the versatility to host conferences, exhibitions, gala dinners and major events.

Our visit to Mitchell Harris Wines was a celebration of Ballarat’s burgeoning wine scene, with the opportunity to sabre and consume the finest sparkling of the region. Mitchell Harris Wines can add a touch of sophistication to your next event.
Hotel Vera & BABAE Restaurant
The famil concluded with a high at Hotel Vera and restaurant BABAE, a boutique hotel that boasts elegance and charm. After  a venue viewing and as a final treat, the group was indulged with a four-course degustation lunch. The elegant ambiance and impeccable service certainly left a lasting impression.
